Weekly Price Recap: 1/13-1/19
Last week our members averaged 8.9 ₵/kWh while the average Texan paid 11.4 ₵/kWh – almost 30% higher. There were two price spikes, one on Tuesday and one on Friday – coincidently, both happened at 6:35 am. Since temperatures dropped to the 30s and 40s in Houston and Dallas, there was a heating demand combined with lower than expected wind generation. Prices hit 88 ₵/kWh for 5 minutes on Tuesday and then 55 ₵/kWh for 5 minutes on Friday before gas-fired generators ramped up and the price quickly corrected.
