Weekly Price Recap: 1/20-1/26
Last week our members averaged 8.1¢/kWh for the week while the average Texan paid 11.4¢/kWh – over 40% higher! The only price spike happened at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, pushing prices up to 42¢/kWh for five minutes. Colder than expected morning temperatures in the 20s and 30s led to system-wide usage that was 3 GW (Gigawatts) above the forecast. That’s enough to power 2.5 time-traveling DeLoreans! As usual, gas-fired plants came to the rescue, quickly increasing generation supply and bringing prices back down to normal.
